About

From the Event Director

There I was sitting in the pub just after the announcement that Hartlepool Folk Festival was to be no more. What a shame, I thought, somebody should do something about this. Then I thought why not me, after all I moved here because of the vibrant live music scene and the joyous people who run it. Perhaps if I could find a few like-minded folk we could form a committee and have a go.

So I set about visiting a few local clubs and pubs, just to get some general opinions and so many of them were enthusiastic and supportive that I thought maybe I will. The final decider was when somebody told me I couldn’t do it, and like a red rag to a bull, I was off….

Headland Folkfest Hartlepool has a core committee of local musicians and sympathetic business people. Were now working in partnership with a wide range of local music charities, museums and other organisations to not only run a successful Folkfest, but to support the development of local music by funding music lessons, school music projects and using local venues throughout the year to ensure the viability of local small businesses.

We are also hosting a number of satellite events:- A St Patrick’s festival in an evening and a Midsummer Ceilidh and others to be announced. And who knows, I may even get up and sing!

If you’re thinking of buying a ticket, please remember that you’re supporting local talent, not lining the pockets of professional event managers!

Here’s hoping to see you soon,

Becky Seal-Smith, Director.

Volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers, either independently or as representative of a local charity or CIC to join our committee on a venture to rejuvenate Hartlepool Headland.

Or if you don’t want to get that involved, why not be a volunteer steward at an event and get a free ticket as a thank you!
